Our Staff
Our staff has excellent professional qualifications along with great enthusiasm and warmth for young children. Here is what they have to say about teaching at SHPS:
I particularly enjoy teaching at Sleepy Hollow Preschool because of the emphasis on emergent curriculum, allowing us to plan and structure activities around the children's interests. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for the outdoors and the natural world, as well as my great love of children's literature.
I can't fully express how much learning takes place while children play. I also believe that it is very important for children to be able to feel comfortable with their teachers, classmates, and their whole environment before they even start learning their numbers and letters.
My teaching passions lie in learning more about the connection between brain development and behavior, as well as supporting children in their natural inclinations for dramatic play. I love to encourage young friends in their artistic endeavors and am inspired every day by their creativity and imagination.

One of the most important principles of teaching to me is to know that children have their own specific learning abilities, and they cannot be forced knowledge.
Because Sleepy Hollow is a cooperative preschool, I can build strong classroom communities with my children and their families.
One of the things I like most about Sleepy Hollow is the passion of the parents. I love the dedication and involvement with the children that each parent strives for at this school.
I love working in a cooperative environment. I find the daily interactions with the parents to be invaluable in helping to create a truly meaningful emergent curriculum for their children. I am able to keep all of my students' individual needs and learning styles in mind while cultivating an engaging, dynamic and holistic classroom environment.
I am a believer in the Sleepy Hollow way and hope that I can add to your child's experience.
I teach at Sleepy Hollow Preschool because I am committed to the premise that learning through play is, in fact, the happiest and most effective way children do learn. It is clear to me, from my study of learning theory, of child development and the current research in brain development, and my own experience with some very wonderful teachers, that the long term goals I have for children - to love learning and to enjoy the company of other people in this venture - are best achieved through many positive and happy experiences.
I have always loved teaching and working with children. I especially enjoy two and three year olds. Watching their language development is the best part. It's an amazing process! I love that I am often their very first teacher, and I enjoy helping them feel loved, respected and at home in the classroom.
From the first time I came to the school and volunteered I felt a connection with everyone I came in touch with. I love the great sense of family and community.
Sleepy Hollow Preschool is a very special place! Our staff is an amazingly dedicated group, and each individual brings many strengths, talents, passions and interests to our program. We are truly a team-taught program and work hard together to create the best environment we can for the children based on our knowledge of young children's development. I am proud to work with such a talented group of people.
Over its 60 years, Sleepy Hollow has never deviated from its belief that young children learn best through play. Sleepy Hollow Preschool's commitment to child-initiated, hands-on activities, including daily outside play, are advertised today as new ideas for best early childhood practices. We knew all these years - Hooray for SHPS!
